Titanic Stories in Falmouth – an exhibition not to be missed
If you’re planning a stay with us this year, don’t miss the chance to explore the National Maritime Museum and its latest exhibition – Titanic Stories!
Running until 7th January next year, this fascinating exhibition examines the stories of the Titanic’s momentous sinking, re-appraising many of the myths, controversies and assumptions that still linger to this day. There is also a strong focus on the rapid commercialisation of the disaster and its rise to becoming one of the most talked about events around the globe.
Making your way around the exhibition you’ll have the opportunity to discover the personal stories of the victims, survivors and descendants of those involved in the tragedy and see rare objects such as a handkerchief waved from a lifeboat and a first-class passenger list found in a victim’s pocket. Documentary, photographs, letters and newspaper cuttings are also on display – providing a powerful insight into the event.
As part of the exhibition the museum has also commissioned two large-scale installation pieces – the first, a life-size replica of Lifeboat 13 and the second a representation of the iceberg which is suspended over the lifeboat, created by Dan Arnold.
As one of the most talked about, historic events of the 20th century, the sinking of the Titanic is still an event that captures the fascination of people all over the world, making this a truly ‘must visit’ exhibition.
