Take Time Out in Cornwall Between Christmas & New Year

Sandwiched between Christmas and New Year, ‘Crimbo Limbo’ is perhaps best known for relaxing, eating and generally taking some time out to prepare for the new year. However, if you’re ready for a little adventure and fun with your nearest and dearest, here are our top recommendations for the leisurely in-between days...

Brave the water

Fancy trying something a little different? For those brave enough to take a dip, taking part in the Charlestown Boxing Day Swim is a must! All are welcome to join in (there’s a minimum £10 sponsorship amount required) and you’ll enjoy plenty of support from the crowds that gather to cheer you on. Raising money for some fantastic causes, it’s a lovely event to attend even if you’re not prepared to swim. After all the fun, why not pop up to our sister hotel The Carlyon Bay and enjoy a warm drink and tasty treat? With a fantastic atmosphere full of festive joy, this is a must see, be that in or out of the water!

Storm watching

As winter descends, Cornwall’s coastline is subjected to a variety of Atlantic storms, with magnificent waves crashing against the cliffs and onto the beaches around the county. There are many stunning places to enjoy this force of nature including Porthleven, Bedruthan Steps, Sennen Cove and the LizardPoint. However, please ensure you keep a safe distance from the water, perhaps finding a cosy café, pub or restaurant to watch the waves in comfort.

Explore the county’s Christmas lights displays

With the rush to find those all-important last presents and to get organised for the big day, it can be hard to find the time to stop and actually enjoy the many wonderful Christmas lights’ displays twinkling around the county. Twixmas offers the perfect opportunity to head to locations such as Mousehole, Angarrack, St Ives or Padstow – or to explore the larger town and city of Falmouth and Truro - and take in the themes and decorations used to create such magical displays. You’ll often find the crowds reduced too!

Take a long winter walk

Ready to blow those cobwebs away and work off some of that Christmas dinner? There are a variety of fantastic walks just waiting to be explored in and around Falmouth, including those that offer the opportunity to enjoy the local beaches and landmarks in the area. You can find some of our favourites here.

Discover the local landmarks and attractions

For those staying with us here at The Royal Duchy Hotel, exploring some of the local landmarks and attractions on our doorstep is a must. From the historic castles of Pendennis and St Mawes, to the National Maritime Museum or the beautiful and often rare flora and fauna found at Trebah Garden, there’s so much to see and do around Falmouth with loved ones at this special time of year.

Enjoy a little together time

With a hectic Christmas just behind you, you may want to simply take time out with loved ones, relax and watch the waves from the comfort of our Terrace Lounge overlooking the bay. Our famous Festive Afternoon Tea is served right up until New Years Day, so indulge a little further. Take a leisurely dip within our pool, take advantage of our leisure facilities and relax a little more, unwind and be pampered within our Retreat.

Create lasting memories this festive season with The Royal Duchy Hotel.
