Cake Creations

Apart from heading up a 12 strong kitchen team, when Head Chef John Mijatovic gets a little spare time he focuses his creativity on creating unique, contemporary wedding and celebration cakes almost too good to eat. Fusing exceptional design, exquisite craftsmanship and the finest ingredients, John sees no design big or small as a challenge.

Having worked across a number of top quality restaurants, large hotels and bistros John has trained on the job from an early age, working across a number of disciplines within the kitchen to become the Head Chef of today.  

Unbelievably John has never trained as a pâtissier chef, his craft came from picking up tricks of the trade along the way and applying such skills to making birthday cakes for his own children as they were growing up. John was tasked with making a much bigger and better cake each year.

The Duchy Christmas Cake 2018 perfectly named ' Falmouth' captures all the fine detail of the panoramic view from The Royal Duchy Hotel, down Castle Beach and over the bay up to Pendennis Castle. The Falmouth RNLI take centre stage in the sea in front of the hotel, with all cake proceeds raised over the festive period going to the wonderful Falmouth RNLI.

Head Chef John Mijatovic has taken The Royal Duchy Hotel, Pendennis Restaurant from strength to strength over almost a decade of service, flying the flag for fine dining in Falmouth. The Pendennis Restaurant has won AA Rosettes for its creative menu which combines classic British cuisine with Mediterranean and Asian flavours.
